This Month’s Artist Spotlight on BPM Create: Dem Jointz
Share

Each month, we’re spotlighting a different artist on BPM Supreme and BPM Create. This month, multi-platinum music producer Dem Jointz (born Dwayne Allen Abernathy Jr.) blesses us with an insider look at his creative process and shares how he got started making beats.

“When I first started producing, I got a hold of a beat machine, and BAM, that was it – I fell in love,” Dem Jointz said.

From Compton, California, Dem Jointz has produced hit records for artists like Rihanna, Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, and Janet Jackson, and most recently worked on Donda by Kanye West. Influenced by music early on, Dem Jointz performed with his local church starting at six years old. His influences are wide-reaching, including everything from NWA and Compton’s Most Wanted to The Isley Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, Anita Baker, and Hall and Oats.

“I try not to stick to a specific process. It all depends on what inspires the first move – you never know what that’s going to be,” he said.

As part of his Artist Spotlight, Dem Jointz also dropped a curated sound pack on BPM Create with his “Top Picks.” This artist-curated pack features drums, 808s, vocals, one-shots, and more to produce a fire hip hop, trap, R&B, pop, or electronic track.

“Man, if I had BPM Create back in the day, life would be so unfair for people.”
